Waiting for Damien
It can take a while to get to know one’s way around a new country.
So Dr Mumbo has great deal of sympathy for the New York Times’ new Australian bureau chief Damien Cave.
While his compatriots from The Guardian, AFR, Walkleys, BBC and Mumbrella debated the future of independent journalism at the Hilton in Sydney, Cave was sadly elsewhere.
Shortly before the lunchtime session, an apologetic Cave emailed to reveal that he was mistakenly 900km away in Melbourne, having muddled up where he was supposed to be speaking.
Which could happen to anyone. Both cities are, after all, much the same. Although, Sydney’s coffee is of course better.
