Warburton bows out with 8.1% ratings share on last day as Ten boss

Warburton sacked by Ten

James Warburton’s final day in charge of Ten saw the network slump to one of the lowest free to air audience shares in the broadcaster’s history.

Data released by OzTAM over the weekend showed that on Friday Ten had a share of just 8.1 per cent from 6pm to midnight.

By contrast, Seven’s share of the audience in the five capital cities was 20.9 per cent. Nine was on 20.6 per cent and ABC1 was on 15.3%.

The numbers were even worse for Ten in Sydney, where share fell to 7.9% and Perth where it fell to 7.8%.

Like the week before, Ten ended the second official ratings week of the year behind ABC1. Ten’s overall share for the week was 11.3%, behind ABC1’s 13.6%, Seven’s 25.3% and Nine’s 20.2%.

Ten’s poor share gives weight to former chief sales officer Mike Morrison’s predictions that the network would face a future fighting the secondary digital channels leaving Seven and Nine as a duopoly. On Saturday, Seven’s secondary channel 7Two delivered a share of 9.3% in Adelaide.

Ten announced on Friday night that Warburton had been sacked, with Hamish McLennan to replace him.

The numbers for the week’s top shows also made grim viewing for Ten. The network had just one show in the top 30 – Elementary which was 30th. Seven’s had nine of the top 10 shows, with My Kitchen Ruiles in the top four spots.

Ten had just four shows in the entire top 50 for last week.
