‘We are proud to be Water Saving Superheroes’: The Wiggles and Sydney Water release new song for water conservation

Sydney Water and iconic children’s entertainers, The Wiggles, have come together to release Water Saving Superheroes – a song that teaches listeners, especially children, how they can conserve water at home.

Prompted by its research into Sydneysiders’ water habits – work that uncovered that only 46% of people try to have shorter showers and 41% of water users wait for the dishwasher to become full before using it – Sydney Water sees the collaboration as the perfect “community education opportunity”, according to its conservation programs manager, Suhanti Thirunavukarasu.

“Drinking water is a limited resource, and with a growing population and an increasing need to use water to keep Greater Sydney cool, we know that even outside of drought every little drop counts,” Thirunavukarasu explained.

“By working with The Wiggles, we can now reach the next generation with important messages about water behaviours and teach them to use less water in day-to-day activities to help the water we have go further.”

Apart from saving water, Thirunavukarasu stressed the monetary benefit of reducing water waste for Sydneysiders.

“Making small adjustments to routines at home may significantly impact how much water you save while also helping save money on your water bill,” she said.

“If everyone in Sydney cut their shower time by just 10 seconds, we would save more than eight million litres of water a day.

“With the current cost of living pressures, encouraging the whole family to reduce their showers to four minutes a day could reduce $100 annually from the household water bill.

“We know we all tend to add a few extra minutes to our showers during the winter months and this matches our latest figures on water usage for the average Sydney household.”

The Wiggles both perform and wrote Water Saving Superheroes, backed with support from characters, the Tree of Wisdom and Dorothy the Dinosaur. When asked about the track, the Blue Wiggle Anthony Field said that he hopes it will make Sydney Water’s conservation mission fun for families.

“Our friends at Sydney Water are working hard to protect and preserve Sydney’s beautiful waterways and focus on a sustainable future,” Field said.

“By recruiting Water Saving Superheroes, we hope to help them on this mission while creating a fun way for families to get involved.

“Saving water is important, and everyone in the household can be a Water Saving Superhero by making little changes, like using the half-flush button on the toilet when appropriate and turning the tap off while brushing their teeth.

“We are proud to be Water Saving Superheroes, and we are excited to see all of our fellow little superheroes saving Sydney’s water.”
