We Are Social nabs Emotive’s Ben Clare as executive creative director

We Are Social has appointed Emotive’s group creative director, Ben Clare, as the socially-led creative agency’s new executive creative director.

In the new role Clare will lead the development of We Are Social’s creative vision, working with agencies’ creative team to deliver social-first ideas an integrated campaigns for clients.

Clare joins the agency with 15 years of experience in Australia and the United states, having been in his current role with Emotive since mid 2019. Prior to Emotive, Clare worked across creative director roles at TBWA\ Sydney, Clemenger BBDO Sydney and Johannes Leonardo in New York.

Over his career, he has worked with a number of big brands including Google, Qantas, Tourism Australia, Amazon, Optus and Skittles, helping them to tell their stories across film, digital experiences, branded entertainment, PR and social. Notably, his work for Google and Coca Cola won the inaugural Mobile Grand Prix at Cannes.

“The opportunity to join We Are Social and help define its next chapter proved impossible to pass up,” said Clare.

“I think nowadays, the best advertising doesn’t always look like advertising. And when you have an agency that genuinely sits at the intersection of culture and commerce, the opportunities to create work that breaks through the clutter are endless. More importantly, We Are Social is filled with lovely and talented people eager to take risks. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Suzie Shaw, CEO at We Are Social, added: ”I love Ben’s work, and I love his energy. Having him join the business at a time when we’ve got so many great clients all looking for interesting ideas, I’m seriously excited about the next creative chapter for We Are Social”.

The appointment marks a continuation of the agencies expansion, having earlier this year appointed Ogilvy PR’s Alice Coulthard as general manager and late last year added Caitlin Hislop as head of strategy and Sarah Macrae as editorial director.
