‘We’re just going to give you a very different type of radio show’: Kyle and Jackie’s Melbourne start date confirmed

Kyle and Jackie O have finally confirmed their Melbourne on-air start date after settling into their new North Sydney studios this week.

The show will launch on Monday, April 29, as announced on air this morning by the pair, and confirmed by ARN.

Sandilands and Henderson spoke to Byron Cooke on KIIS 101.1 in Melbourne this morning, and announced the date:

“Let me just warn everyone,” Sandilands said. “It doesn’t matter what you’ve heard and what the newspaper or this person or some other radio station says, we’re not here to change your mind.

“We’re just going to give you a very different type of radio show. I’m not saying the other ones are the worst shows in the world because they’re not. They’ve been great, but we just offer something different.”

Among the “other ones” Sandilands is referring to is Melbourne’s former KIIS breakfast team, Jase and Lauren, who launched their new show on Nova 100 last Friday, ahead of the Victorian Labour Day long weekend.

Now, it’s worth noting that Sandilands has ‘announced’ the show’s start date before on-air — telling a caller it would launch in “six weeks” at the start of February. If the April 29 date is accurate, and ARN’s confirmation suggests it is, Kyle and Jackie are giving Jase and Lauren a sizable window in which to entice their old listeners to switch stations with them.

The pair have settled into their new studio in North Sydney as of this week, with NSW Premier Chris Minns even taking time out from running the state to officiate a ribbon-cutting ceremony yesterday morning.

“Would you agree with me this is the most technically advanced studio you’ve ever seen?”, Sandilands asked Minns, who is not noted for his audio expertise.

“The relocation of The Kyle & Jackie O Show to our new, purpose-built studio signifies a pivotal moment for ARN and I would like to thank every team member who has worked on this project,” ARN chief Ciaran Davis said.

“With the impending launch of The Kyle & Jackie O Show into Melbourne, we look forward to the continued success of the show from its impressive new headquarters.”

Kyle and Jackie O are the first ARN show to start broadcasting from the new studio, with plans for the entire Sydney team to broadcast from the new North Sydney ARN headquarters by the end of next month.

WSFM’s breakfast hosts Jonesy & Amanda will be the next to move from the ‘old’ studio in Macquarie Park to North Sydney in the coming weeks.

Last month, Davis told Mumbrella the studio move was a major factor in Kyle and Jackie O’s delayed launch into Melbourne. “We want to make sure that the technology and the syncing technology from a broadcast perspective is set up,” he explained.
