Gold star for the birthday boy (and a smack on the head for the moderator)

While all of the panellists at this week’s Mumbrella Question Time put the work in to make it a good session, Aegis boss Lee Stephens deserved a special gold star.  

Despite celebrating his birthday the night before, he was first to arrive at the venue.

And he had interesting things to say about how media agencies work. Describing their job as being more than negotiating for “the first right hand page of the Herald”, he told the audience: “That’s what Mitchells is for”.

But the most timely moment of the morning came during a discussion about the gimmicks agencies engage in during pitch presentations.

Just as Mojo’s Craig Davis discussed how he was not a fan of pitch theatre, the sign for sponsor Eye fell off the wall and hit Mumbrella editor Tim Burrowes firmly on the back of the head.

Davis conceded: “But occasionally theatre works brilliantly”.
