Whybin\TBWA appoints BBH’s Gary McCreadie and Wesley Hawes as ECDs
Whybin\TBWA has hired London-based BBH creatives Gary McCreadie and Wesley Hawes as its new executive creative directors following the loss of Dave Bowman and Matty Burton to Special Group.
McCreadie and Hawes – who have won a number of awards for their work for Unilever’s Axe/Lynx brand – briefly worked for the agency about five years ago.
In an announcement tonight, Paul Bradbury, CEO of Whybin\TBWA, said: “Gary and Wes are one of the most exciting creative leadership teams in the world right now.
“They respect the power of big platform campaign ideas, having been in the engine room at BBH, working on ‘The Lynx Effect’ for Unilever, ‘Keep Walking’ for Johnnie Walker, and the ‘We Own the Weekend’ campaign for The Guardian.
“They are outrageously funny, down to earth and strategically driven. They will fit in brilliantly.”
Scott Whybin, chairman and regional creative director of the agency, said: “It’s always very satisfying when great creative people return to work for us.
“Having worked for us in Sydney before, they get the tone and pace that is required, plus they have had world class training and experience at BBH London. They are ready to put their own mark on an agency.”
No official start date has been announced for the new team, with it understood Bowman and Burton are set to leave well before Christmas.

Excellent hire, no doubt about it.
For the benefit of the rest of us, any chance someone could cast a light on what a team like this costs? What’s the remuneration per year for talent like this?

Write those big campaign ideas or just work on them?
Good hire though, big boots to fill.

When it says they worked in Australia before, what work did they do?

Hi Another Agency.
Here’s their deal.
450k a peice
Slice of the profits.
Return business class airfares home to UK-probably twice a year.
Landing and resettlement cost.
So all up well over a mill.
Worth it?
Time will tell.
[Note from editor – Whybins has confirmed this is not the remuneration package for McCreadie and Hawes]

With that budget you could have got anyone in the world!
You could attract a world class person who has run an agency before.
Massive call!

Good move, but was it planned? one week group out, next week new group in.

How you plan that??
Get two guys to leave and do a start up – but stay working for a few months – and hire two others who probably don’t start till next year.

It’s one thing to come from a great agency with a book full of great things. Another entirely to walk into a poorly run agency and do great things people can admire.
Good luck to the guys, hope they don’t miss all the things English creatives take for granted when they get here. And good luck with the weekends. It’s a bundle of fun.
