Willie Pang leaves GroupM to join tech startup Limepay

Managing director of GroupM Services Willie Pang is stepping down, just months after being promoted from MediaCom CEO.

Pang will be returning to the tech client sector, at Limepay, a company he is already on the board of. The news comes just under a month after Aimee Buchanan was announced as the new GroupM CEO.

Pang will remain at GroupM until the end of the year, with a search for his replacement already underway.

A GroupM spokesperson said: “GroupM’s ongoing transformation continues at pace in line with our global strategy. Willie has played an impactful leadership role for our clients and people over many years and in laying the foundations for GroupM Services in Australia. Willie remains with the business until the end of the year, and we will communicate his replacement in due course. We wish him all the best with this exciting new opportunity.”

GroupM said it will be business as usual for the remainder of the year, and his replacement will be a part of the next phase of GroupM services.

Pang has been executive chairman at Limepay since February this year.

Pang was elevated into the group role in April to work with the CEOs of each of GroupM’s agencies and investment teams to align the business with GroupM’s global transformation team to improve efficiency and results for clients through implementing data, technology and process improvements.

This came shortly after Mark Lollback stepped down from the GroupM CEO role in March, now to be replaced by Buchanan.

Pang had been with MediaCom since 2015, starting out as chief digital office before being elevated to chief operating officer and finally CEO in 2018.  He was replaced at MediaCom by Yaron Farizon, previously CEO of MediaCom Russia and MediaCom Connections Israel.
