WPP Media appoints chief creator officer

WPP Media, formerly GroupM, has appointed a local chief creator officer.

Shivani Maharaj takes on the role, where she will lead the creative and strategic vision across social media, influencer marketing, and the broader creator economy. Her responsibilities will include fusing culture, content, and commerce together.

She shared the news to Linkedin over the weekend, adding that she’ll be “shaping how brands connect with culture in real time”.

“I’ll be focused on elevating creator-led storytelling and redefining how influence works in the new media landscape,” she wrote. “The future of brand-building is collaborative, social-first, and creatively fearless — and I’m thrilled to help lead the way.”

Maharaj has worked within the WPP group since 2006. She first joined Essencemediacom as a media buying assistant, and spent eight-and-a-half years there, working her way up to a group director role. She then spent three years at Maxus Global, before joining Wavemaker in 2017 as national head of content and partnerships.

In 2021, Wavemaker promoted her to chief content and partnerships officer, where she delivered creativity to media via branded content, influencer marketing, addressable content, branded entertainment, and sport and entertainment partnerships.

WPP Media’s local CEO, Aimee Buchanan, told Maharaj she’s “very excited about building this with you at the helm”.
