Yahoo Finance has named former business editor of news.com.au, Sarah O’Carroll, editor-in-chief across Australia and New Zealand.
O’Carroll, who most recently ran her own content strategy consultancy Power Ink Media, has spent time both at News Corp and at Private Media, where she was head of content partnerships.

O’Carroll is the first editor in chief for Australia and New Zealand at Yahoo Finance
She will report directly to Simon Wheeler, Yahoo7’s – soon to be Oath’s – director of content.

“Yahoo Finance is a leading global brand and a huge opportunity for growth has been identified in the ANZ market. Finance has long been pigeon-holed as the preserve of an older, predominantly male audience, but that simply isn’t the case anymore,” O’Carroll said.
“I’m really looking forward to getting started and creating quality content that can inform a wider audience.”
Wheeler said O’Carroll would bring “creativity, enthusiasm and personality” to the role.
“Her experience across commercial content shows she really understands audiences, but with the integrity and knowledge that defines Yahoo Finance as a brand, and we are committed to making this a leading finance destination across the region,” he said.
Her appointment comes as Seven West Media sells its 50% stake in the Yahoo7 joint venture to Oath. The transaction is set to be completed this month, at which point, ‘7’will be dropped from the name.
