Yahoo!7 to continue to provide search for Big Pond mobile

Yahoo!7 has renewed its contract with Sensis – as a search product provider for Big Pond mobile.

The announcement:

Sydney, Monday 29 November 2010 – Yahoo!7 and Sensis have signed another two year contract to provide Yahoo!7’s mobile search product for BigPond mobile users.

Sensis Mobile Search powered by Yahoo! was created in 2008 when Yahoo!7 and Sensis signed their first partnership agreement with the objective of enhancing the search experience for consumers on mobile phones, while providing new and exciting opportunities for advertisers.

The continuation of the partnership provides BigPond mobile users with a range of mobile search benefits, including YellowPages business listings with a ‘click to call’ option; improved relevancy of search results; voice activated search; BigPond downloads; and programmed search results for Trading Post and BigPond Sport.

Emma Harrington Director of Network Management, Yahoo!7 said, “The continuation of our relationship with Sensis is another example of our success in building strong strategic partnerships, as well as our commitment to mobile search. Accessing information through mobile platforms is on the increase and our partnership with Sensis provides Sensis customers with a world-class mobile search experience.”

“Over the past year there has been a 180% increase in use of Sensis Mobile Search powered by Yahoo!, which can be attributed to the improved user experience and local relevancy such as local news, weather, events and business listings. We are definitely seeing people’s interest in accessing search on their mobile phones increase,” she said.

Tim Corr, Sensis Search Senior Product Manager said, “Searches on mobile for local businesses are among the most popular, with more than half of all of the commercial searches being made by people looking for a local business.”

“Yellow Pages is the most comprehensive source of business listings and an increasing number of users are now relying on mobile search to find the information they need. The extension of the partnership between Sensis and Yahoo!7 will ensure that mobile users will continue to have highly relevant information at their fingertips, wherever they may be,” he said.

Yahoo! has mobile search partnerships with various leading mobile operators globally. The company unveiled Yahoo! oneSearch 2.0 in January 2007 and has continued to enhance the offering to enable users to initiate searches faster using text or voice and access more relevant details through integrating content with publishers such as Sensis.
