A list of the ten most watched global YouTube video ads since Cannes 2013 has been released by YouTube.

Topping the list was an ad for Turkish Airlines featuring basketball star Kobe Bryant and football star Lionel Messi trying to outselfie each other at various locations around the globe in an ad spruiking Turkish Airlines.

Number two on the list was an ad for YouTube itself showing a mashup of parodies of the most talked about YouTube videos of 2013, including Robin Thicke’s song Blurred lines, the Prancercise woman and MysteryGuitarMan.

Third was by LA based fashion brand Wren and called First Kiss, an awkwardly touching short film where twenty strangers were asked to kiss for the first time in front of a camera crew.

Ads for Volvo, Nike and Budweiser also made the list – See below for all ten.

Olly Grundy, Australian head of YouTube Solutions, said the list is expected to include potential winners from this year’s Cannes advertising awards.

“This leaderboard shows the power of great creative. Hundreds of millions of people are choosing to watch these ads and engage with these brands because the ads are utterly captivating. Nowhere are great stories rewarded more than on the internet,” he said.

“Australian agencies produce some of the most creative ads in the world and we hope that next year we will see an Aussie ad on the Cannes YouTube Ads leaderboard”
