Zurich partners with Melbourne Football Club

Zurich Financial Services Australia Limited (Zurich) has become the co-principal sponsor of one of Australia’s oldest and most respected AFL clubs, Melbourne Football Club.

The three-year partnership will see Zurich’s logo feature on the front of the Melbourne Demons’ guernseys, plus other branding rights including signage and game day advertising.

Speaking at the signing of the announcement, Tim Bailey, CEO for Life & Investments pointed out the similarities between the two organisations in terms of their heritage in Australia.

“In the Melbourne Demons we see not just a successful and well run sporting organisation, in Australia’s premier sporting code, we see a team that shares many of our own qualities – a blue chip brand with a proud heritage, a strong and inclusive culture, and a real desire to make a difference to the communities they represent,” said Mr Bailey.

The arrangement follows a rapid growth period for Zurich in Australia, aided by the recent acquisition of Macquarie Life, and the intended acquisition of ANZ’s life insurance business, OnePath life, which will see Zurich become the number one retail life insurer in the country.

It also follows Zurich’s promotion of the importance of mental and physical wellness internally within its business and externally to its network of financial advice partners and the broader insurance community, through an initiative called Program MindFIT.

Zurich has an established relationship with AFL, also having a partnership with the AFL Coaches Association to share the best practice of this professional coaching community with its business network.

Melbourne Football Club’s Chief Executive, Peter Jackson, said he was incredibly grateful to have Zurich on board.

“Zurich’s strong brand is a valuable asset to Melbourne and I would like to thank Tim and his team for their support of the club.”

It just takes us to a whole new level, with the brand that they are, relative to the brands that Melbourne Football Club has had. We’re very grateful,” he said.
