The release:

Sydney, Australia, 22 September 2015 – DesignCrowd, the Sydney based design crowdsourcing platform, has been announced as a 2015 Red Herring Top 100 company in the Asia region.

It’s the first time the crowdsourcing design company has been included in the list, which recognises the leading private companies across multiple industries.

CEO Alec Lynch was delighted after winning the award and said he was excited about the future for crowdsourcing and DesignCrowd.

“DesignCrowd was launched in Australia from my family home 8 years ago but today we areapproaching $20m in annual revenues and 500,000 designers from over 100 countries,” he said.

“We are delighted to be recognized by Red Herring as one of the Top 100 private companies in the Australasia.”

“While we are proud of what we’ve built, we believe the opportunity for DesignCrowd and crowdsourcing remains huge.”

The Australian start-up is based in Surry Hills, and has offices in Manila, Philippines, and San Francisco, USA.

It offers customers the opportunity to post design briefs to a network of more than 475k designers, who can submit their creative solutions for free.

Publisher and CEO of Red Herring, Alex Vieux, said it was not easy selecting the companies with the strongest potential.

He added: “After rigorous contemplation and discussion, we narrowed our list down from hundreds of candidates from across Asia to the Top 100 Winners.

“We believe DesignCrowd embodies the vision, drive and innovation that define a successful entrepreneurial venture.

“Design Crowd should be proud of its accomplishment, as the competition was as strong as ever.”

Red Herring said the Top 100 Asia list has become a mark of distinction for identifying promising new companies and entrepreneurs.

The judges evaluated the companies on both quantitative and qualitative criteria, such as financial performance, technology innovation, management quality, strategy, and market penetration.

A statement from the global media company added: “This assessment of potential is complemented by a review of the track record and standing of startups relative to their peers, allowing Red Herring to see past the “buzz” and make the list a valuable instrument of discovery and advocacy for the most promising new business models in Asia.”
