Web comedy from Melbourne picks up LA Webfest award.
Melbourne comedy group Touched by an Angle Grinder have picked up an award for their online comedy series at the LA Webfest.
The announcement:
A Melbourne-made comedy web series about a failed basketballer turned private detective has this week taken home two comedy awards at the Los Angeles Web Series Festival.
Dick Dribble: Pro-Baller/Private-Eye was written, produced and directed by Greta Harrison and Matthew C. Vaughan of Melbourne comedy team Touched by an Angle Grinder (TBAAG). They were awarded Outstanding Production (Comedy) at the festival. Daniel Cowan took out Outstanding Lead Actor for his performance as the deluded P.I.
Dick Dribble screened as part of alternative comedy series Lost Dog on Channel 31 Melbourne and WTV Perth and at www.lostdogtv.com.au.
Greta said the TBAAG team was thrilled to have received the two prizes.
“It’s wonderful that there now exists two proper, grown-up awards made out to “Dick Dribble.” I’m sure it would have been confusing and upsetting for whoever had to make those,” she said.
This is not TBAAG’s first LA Webfest award. Their previous series The Peep Jeep, also received a Best Comedy Award at the 2012 festival. This is also Daniel Cowan’s second LA Webfest acting award, after his performance in Michael De Robbio’s comedy web series The Broken Ones was honoured in 2012.
“I think we have recently seen emergence of an unique new community of alternative online comedy content makers, particular the creative teams at Lost Dog, and we are proud to have been part of this group over the last two years. It’s a really exciting space to be working in,” Greta said.
Matthew said he had learnt some valuable lessons from the experience.
“I’ve learnt not to Google image search Dick Dribble.”
Dick Dribble is currently screening on online channels Boomtrain and Blip, where it has regularly been a featured series.
Comedy site Comedy TV is Dead recently reviewed Dick Dribble, describing it as “the spiritual successor to Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace” and “a polished, confident and self aware comedy that has the power to charm you into its lurid and nonsensical world.”
