350.org shows iconic landmarks in a climate change future

Local activist group 350.org has launched a campaign which shows Australians what iconic landmarks could look like if we don’t “change the future”.

Created by M&C Saatchi’s LIDA, the ads feature a man wearing an astronaut’s outfit because he lives in a world where the levels of carbon dioxide are too high to safely live in.

The organisation’s name, 350.org, refers to the safest concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere needed to preserve a liveable planet, which is 350 parts per million. Currently carbon dioxide levels are over 400 parts per million.

Glen Klatovsky, CEO of 350.org Australia, said in a statement: “It’s easy to get caught up with facts and figures and be distracted from the real issue at hand. What I like about this idea is it cuts across the debate to show what will happen if we simply carry on as we are.”

Richard Donovan, creative director at LIDA, added: “Stories, rather than facts, change minds. By using illustrations, we engage people’s imaginations and give them room to rethink. At the same time, 350.org Australia is giving them a way to take action.”

The campaign will roll out across outdoor, print, poster, web and social media.
