Ad watchdog disapproves of Wicked Campers glamorising the illegal ‘cannabis use, distribution and possession’

The advertising watchdog has criticised infamous advertiser Wicked Campers for promoting illegal “cannabis use, distribution and possession” as well as using strong and obscene language.

Wicked Campers had two of its vans banned with one plastering “nothing says romance like choking on a dick because you’re choosing his penis over air. Now that’s love” across the vehicle, while the other one said “roll roll roll your joint, pass it down the line, take a toke, inhale the smoke and blow your fuckin’ mind!”.

Complaints posting to the advertising regulator said the vans were “highly inappropriate for children”, “damaging for under age children” and “vulgar”.

One complaint said: “They keep showing a disregard and just change the slogans to something else vulgar or offensive. When will people and children’s rights be protected from marketing material put out by this company. They do it with intention. That is proven.”

Ad Standards said the word “fucking” is not appropriate for a broad audience and the depiction of “cannabis use, distribution and possession” is illegal.

The ad watchdog said the van also “glamorises” and “trivialises” drug use by suggesting it is something that shouldn’t be taken seriously.

In addition to this, the board also agreed that the phrase “choking on a dick” uses sexually explicit language and isn’t appropriate.

Although Wicked Campers did not provide a response to the ruling, Ad Standards upheld the complaints.
