AFL legend Matthew Pavlich joins Sports Marketing Summit line up alongside Telstra, Huawei, Twitch and ARU

One of the most respected players in modern AFL history and the current president of the AFL Player’s Association Matthew Pavlich is the latest big name to join the Mumbrella Sports Marketing Summit line up.

AFL legend Matthew Pavlich joins the Mumbrella Sports Marketing Summit line up

He is one of nine speakers from organisations including Telstra, Huawei, GWS Giants, Nielsen Sports, the ARU, Invictus Games and Twitch added to the program of Australia’s biggest sports marketing conference which takes place at the Sydney Cricket Ground on June 21.

The earlybird ticket offer closes this Thursday, May 4.

Pavlich, who hung up his boots at the end of last season and is co-founder of athlete connection portal Pickstar, will be joining other prominent sports people on the Ask an Athlete panel. He is also currently a presenter with the Nine Network, Fox Sports and Nova.

The AFL Player’s Association is currently negotiating new terms with the league which could dramatically alter the way players are able to engage with sponsors, with ramifications for the code, clubs and backers.

During a glittering career Pavlich played more than 300 games for Fremantle Dockers and was named an All-Australian six times.

GWS Giants’ Ryan Kaveney and Nielsen Sports’ Jo-Ann Foo join the What’s Next for Women’s Sports panel

Joining a panel looking at What’s Next for Women’s Sports are Ryan Kaveney, chief fan and commercial officer for the GWS Giants which this year launched AFLW and netball sides, and Jo-Ann Foo, head of research and insights for agency Nielsen Sports.

Telstra’s Rebecca Haagsma, director or product and innovation, joins a panel on the Future of Sports Broadcasting alongside Scott Wenkart, founder and managing director of Showdown, the Australian partner for global video game streaming service Twitch.TV.

They join Ten’s head of sport David Barham and BeIn Sport managing director Conor Woods on the panel, which will be moderated by former head of NRL Media and Twitter director of audiences David Ray.

And the panel discussion looking at How to Tell You’re Getting Value From Your Sponsorship has three new members.

The sponsorship panel will be joined by Lisa Connors of Huawei, Tim Hodgson of the Invictus Games and the ARU’s John Nicholl

Lisa Connors, manager of corporate relations and programs for Chinese giant Huawei will be diving into their partnerships with the Canberra Raiders and Gold Coast Suns, while John Nicholl, general manager of commercial for the Australian Rugby Union will be talking about how that code generates value for partners.

And that panel will also see Tim Hodgson, chief commercial and marketing officer for the Invictus Games, talk about the value sponsors of the sporting event for injured veterans can get beyond just brand association when the event comes to Sydney in 2018.

Sessions already announced for the program include an international keynote from NFL team Los Angeles Chargers head of digital Joel Price, a deep-dive on Cricket Australia’s international strategy, an exclusive study on sports fans’ attitudes into the amount of content on TV and how KFC has built its brand off the back of cricket.
