Annabelle: Creation beats off The Dark Tower to retain weekend box office top spot

Annabelle: Creation kept the top spot on this weekend’s box office takings, grossing $1.526m, a fall from last week’s $2.287m, but still enough to keep out Stephen King’s fantasy sci-fi thriller The Dark Tower in its debut week.

The Dark Tower grossed $1.340m while Dunkirk began to slide down the charts with $1.109m, down from $1.729m the previous week.

Since its debut in late July, Dunkirk has topped $20m in takings, according to the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia.

Logan Lucky, Steven Soderbergh’s heist comedy, came in at number four in its debut week with $914,343 in takings, while fellow debutant, late life love story Hampstead, was in fifth position with $738,802.

War for the Planet of the Apes fell fell out of the top five to seventh spot with $541,019 in ticket sales, beaten to sixth by Valerian and the City of the Thousand Planets which earned $548,219.
