Annalect CEO Darren Stein to leave Omnicom, replaced by Dentsu talent

Annalect CEO Darren Stein has resigned from his role, and is leaving the Omnicom Group, but his replacement has already been lined-up with Clement Tsang from Dentsu’s Amplifi set to take the reins.

Stein is leaving the role after what will be two-and-a-half years at the data marketing agency, working across Australia and New Zealand.

Tsang has been general manager of global media partnerships and innovation for the past 18 months at Amplifi. Tsang was chosen as replacement after Omnicom Group “ran an extensive search” and landed on “one of the few executives in APAC” with deep technological expertise, according to a statement.

Stein and Tsang previously worked together at Cadreon , when Stein hired Tsang to lead consulting for IPG Mediabrands.

CEO of OMG ANZ, Peter Horgan thanked Stein for his time at Annalect: “Darren has played an instrumental role in standing up a fully-fledged, five pillar consulting offering for the group and many of our clients, from mid caps to enterprise businesses have experienced the impact and project ownership first hand. The pace at which he achieved this evolution in Annalect is nothing short of remarkable and he leaves with our sincere thanks.”

Stein was hired in May 2019 to reshape OMG’s analytics, data and tech offering, and in his time has worked on the groups marketing science, analytics, business intelligence, data and tech consultancy.

Tsang will join Annalect, moving over from Dentsu

Stein said of his departure: “I would like to thank Horgs for his unwavering support and trust over the past couple of years. Together with his backing and the incredible caliber of talented people that now sits in the business, we have been able to prove a specialist model that can compete with the large consultancies on both quality and price as well as be held accountable through to activation.”

A statement said that during his time as CEO of Annalect, Stein grew Omnicom revenue by 54%, raising engagement by 16%, halved churn and elevated employee capability through improvements to hiring practices, training and accreditations.

The incoming Tsang said: “I am grateful to Darren who has not once but now, twice given me the opportunity to demonstrate my technical and strategic capability. I am looking forward to working with the leadership team at Omnicom and felt the collaborative culture through the interview process.”

Stein also added: “An unexpected opportunity was presented to me that I could not walk away from, despite how I feel about the team at Annalect and the leadership at Omnicom.

Last week, Annalect hired GroupM’s Liesa Newland to take up the newly created role of head of data infrastructure and integration.

Stein will remain in the role until September, with Tsang taking over at the beginning of October.
