Aussie Ashes domination reflected by Nine with a 30 per cent audience share
The Ashes dominated prime time viewing on Sunday with more than 1.7m metro viewers tuning in for the third session of the second test on Channel Nine, according to preliminary overnight ratings from OzTam.
Australia’s improvement gave live cricket a boost, making three of the top five programs of the day along with Nine News and Nine’s afternoon Cricket Show, all scoring more than 1m viewers and giving the channel a 30 per cent share of the audience.
Channel Seven scored a 16.8 per cent share, while Channel Ten held just an 8.2 per cent share.
The third session of The Ashes second test dominated viewing between 6.30pm and 9pm and helped Nine News win more than 1.5m metro viewers as Seven News dropped to 934,000. Meanwhile David Attenborough’s Greatest Wildlife Show on Earth averaged 285,000 for Ten ranking third in its timeslot from 6pm to 7pm.
Seven’s Border Security Australia’s Front Line, Coastwatch and Wild Planet: North America were all second in their timeslots between 6.30pm and 8.30pm. Ten’s current affairs quiz Have You Been Paying Attention averaged 291,000 at 7pm and a repeat of Modern Family was the network’s strongest performer with 504,000 at 7.30pm.
Nine also won the 8.30pm timeslot with a new episode of The Mentalist rating 675,000, as Ten’s repeat of the US Sherlock Holmes drama Elementary averaged 240,000 metro viewers and was fifth in its timeslot.
Meanwhile SBS One’s Secrets of Stonehenge averaged 330,000, Bones had 599,000 on Seven and Miss Marple was second in the timeslot with 653,000 viewers on ABC1.
