The Australian’s media editor Nick Tabakoff moves to Commbank

Media editor of The Australian Nick Tabakoff is to leave the national broadsheet newspaper for a senior role with Commonwealth Bank.

The Australian reports, Tabakoff has accepted a newly created role with the bank as its executive manager of public affairs.

He became media editor of The Australian in September last year, after he moved from sister title The Daily Telegraph where he had been associate editor. Tabakoff has also previously worked as media business writer on The Australian and also at The Australian Financial Review, Business Review Weekly and Bulletin Magazine.

The changing of the guard at the Media section comes amid rumours The Australian will next year launch a business focused insert the “Australian Business Review” to challenge Fairfax’s business newspaper The Australian Financial Review. A News Corp spokeswoman last week declined to comment on speculation around the insert.

The AFR’s Rear Window column reports a successor to Tabakoff will be appointed this week.
