Ten dumps The Bachelor from Sunday and Monday nights
Channel Ten has dropped The Bachelor from its primetime schedule on Sunday nights and Mondays to broadcast the show just once a week in a less competitive viewing time on Wednesdays.
The show premiered to 669,000 metro viewers last Sunday, lost viewers in its second outing on Monday, and dropped to 576,000 metro viewers for the third episode last night, according to preliminary overnight ratings from OzTam.
In the competitive Sunday night 7.30pm time slot The Bachelor has fallen below Channel Nine’s 60 Minutes and The X Factor on Seven, with audiences of over a million.
On Wednesdays The Bachelor will be on at 7.30pm, competing with Slideshow on Channel Seven and Big Brother on Channel Nine, which rated at 868,000 and 805,000 last week. The show will also be up against 7.30 on ABC1, which had an audience of 942,000 last Wednesday.
A Channel Ten spokesperson said that despite the smaller audiences on Sundays the show is popular among women and under 40s.
“We are very proud of The Bachelor and moving it to Wednesday nights will give it an opportunity to reach more Australians,” the spokesperson said.
“The Bachelor has clearly struck a chord with some viewers, particularly women. The first three episodes ranked number one in their timeslot with women aged 25 to 39 and number two with all people aged under 40.
“The Bachelor is also a hit online, with almost 800,000 online video views of the first two episodes and a high level of engagement on social media.”
In the Sunday night spot Channel Ten will run Great Bear Stake Out With Billy Connolly over the next two weeks.
If it rates like a lemon, looks like a lemon and sounds like a lemon – then it is probably some type of citrus fruit closely related to a lemon.
C’mon Aussie women – please don’t tell me that a group of attractive and intelligent ladies should be reduced to fighting it out for one man.
This show puts woman’s liberation back about 90 years.

The wonder is that Channel 10 really thought this was going to be their big ratings hit. Seriously? If this is an example of what their allegedly gun new programming team think a hit show looks like, then ratiings success is as far off as ever for 10.

The art to reality shows is in the casting. This Bachelor guy is too polished with his male model background, he’s not the right choice. Rumours of him having a girlfriend got the show and the audience’s ability to connect with him off to a dud start. He was chosen to look good in promos, but doesn’t add to the content of the show. It’s Ten’s fault really for not casting properly.

Ten – what are you doing. Consistency of our schedule will be our key to 2013 – ha !
Generally appalled at the decision making process within management. This will not end well – again.

Gee, James Warburton would be laughing. Disaster after disaster. WHen is Lachlan going to take some responsibility?

Anyone could see this was going to be a dud from ten million miles away. This kind of programming is classic of a bunch of middle aged men sitting in a room jerking each others egos and saying “yeah, that’ll work… women in the demo will love it!”
The decisions of Ch10 management leave a lot to be desired. As if this isn’t one of their biggest failings of the year for them… they’ve changed just about every promo to reflect this show, changed the logo and even interrupt their other programs with annoying falling rose petals. Massive fail to be moving this now.
Management have let down their audiences and their advertisers… again!
What are the projected numbers on Billy Connlly’s Bear special?
“We are very proud…” – yeah right.

The issue for me is not the numbers…..if you were chasing women in that demographic its spot on… Its managements decisions to move the show around and upset the timetable of the people that are watching…………very poor commercial thinking! You need to stand behind your programming decisions or give up now…..

I don’t think Ten’s decision to move The Bachelor to Wednesdays is the right one, considering that Nine’s Big Brother evictions are also moving to Wednesdays from October. http://behindbigbrother.com/20.....-wednesday

It must be extremely embarrassing for the contestants to witness each other trying to win The affection of one man , it just is not possible for the poor guy to choose a woman he has just met and expect to propose to in just a matter of weeks. The rejection of the rest of the contestants must be humiliating, I wouldn’t do it that’s for sure, but then, there are people who will do anything just to get on the screen.

i seriously can’t understand why Australian channels have to keep shifting their shows just because they aren’t rating – for the people who were keen enough to watch, it builds up resentment of the channel’s overall brand. Time shifted and on-demand television means live ratings really do matter less and less.

I have been watching the show as it is so bad. I have watched a lot of the American Bachelor and this has none of the interest. He is boring. It all started too big so really has nowhere to go compared to the US Version. Why did you destroy the format? I really enjoy the American version and more so the Bachelorette. Also interesting to read the girls were made to be bitchy. That is what doesn’t work for me also. It really seems forced.
