Ten dumps The Bachelor from Sunday and Monday nights

ten logoChannel Ten has dropped The Bachelor from its primetime schedule on Sunday nights and Mondays to broadcast the show just once a week in a less competitive viewing time on Wednesdays.

The show premiered to 669,000 metro viewers last Sunday, lost viewers in its second outing on Monday, and dropped to 576,000 metro viewers for the third episode last night, according to preliminary overnight ratings from OzTam.

In the competitive Sunday night 7.30pm time slot The Bachelor has fallen below Channel Nine’s 60 Minutes and The X Factor on Seven, with audiences of over a million.

On Wednesdays The Bachelor will be on at 7.30pm, competing with Slideshow on Channel Seven and Big Brother on Channel Nine, which rated at 868,000 and 805,000 last week. The show will also be up against 7.30 on ABC1, which had an audience of 942,000 last Wednesday.

A Channel Ten spokesperson said that despite the smaller audiences on Sundays the show is popular among women and under 40s.

“We are very proud of The Bachelor and moving it to Wednesday nights will give it an opportunity to reach more Australians,” the spokesperson said.

“The Bachelor has clearly struck a chord with some viewers, particularly women. The first three episodes ranked number one in their timeslot with women aged 25 to 39 and number two with all people aged under 40.

“The Bachelor is also a hit online, with almost 800,000 online video views of the first two episodes and a high level of engagement on social media.”

In the Sunday night spot Channel Ten will run Great Bear Stake Out With Billy Connolly over the next two weeks.
