BBC Global News and Taboola form content recommendation partnership

BBC Global News has announced a partnership with Taboola, as its exclusive content recommendations provider.

Taboola’s services will be integrated into BBC’s global coverage in all markets outside the UK, where the publisher is commercially funded.

In a statement, Taboola said the deal will see BBC Global News use Taboola products across its news and sport sites, in order to drive revenue, while also allowing the BBC to maintain its user experience.

Taboola founder and CEO, Adam Singolda

Taboola founder and CEO, Adam Singolda said: “We are very pleased to officially hold the title of exclusive content recommendations provider for BBC Global News. To take on this role, we needed to earn the absolute trust of the BBC that we can meet their requirements. As a result, we have built a true partnership and we cannot wait to further innovate together. This alliance fits perfectly with our focus on premium publications and brands, and we’re confident our products will help grow revenue across the BBC’s sites.”

BBC Global News SVP for business development, innovation, global advertising and storyworks, Errol Baran, said: “As our readership grows and changes, we constantly seek out technology companies like Taboola which can help us keep pace. Our robust standards for data and quality are paramount and we have chosen to work with Taboola because of the adaptability of their recommendation platform and their understanding of our requirements. We are very much looking forward to forming a fruitful relationship going forward.”

Taboola’s products, including Taboola Feed provide an integrated feed that offers readers personalised content for “a more engaging experience, enabling monetisation of below-article placements,” according to the official statement. These will be integrated into, with the aim to “drive revenue while keeping UX and the integrity of the brand intact,” in addition to growing audiences and engagement across BBC online services.

Taboola is a content recommendations and advertising provider, and adds BBC Global News to its network of existing news brands including CNBC, NBC News, Business Insider, The Independent and El Mundo.

Locally, Taboola recently signed a two-year deal with Are Media, the partnership seeing the company utilise Taboola’s content discovery features moving forward.

In November, Taboola also added Seven West Media’s digital assets to its local portfolio in Australia.
