BBC Studios promotes Jon Penn to executive vice president for APAC
BBC Studios has appointed Jon Penn to the role of executive vice president, APAC, as it merges its Asia and ANZ regions to create a newly-formed Asia-Pacific structure.
The role is a promotion for Penn, who was previously BBC Studios’ managing director, ANZ, and sees him replace Myleeta Aga, who was acting EVP for Asia.
BBC Studios’ international sales and distribution business, including content sales, branded services and ancillaries, came together as a single global distribution group from 1 September under president of global distribution, Paul Dempsey.
“Jon’s ability and experience makes him ideally suited to extend his remit across our successful Asia business,” said Dempsey, to whom Penn will continue to report.
“He has overseen an impressive growth story in Australia and New Zealand and this is a great opportunity to bring our fast growing Asia business into a formidable APAC region.”
Before joining BBC Studios, Penn served for four years as CEO Asia-Pacific at Fremantle’s international distribution division, and was with Fremantle for more than 11 years. He has also held roles at Fairfax, Hewlett-Packard, and KPMG.
“Having spent many years working throughout the region, I’m thrilled to be offered the opportunity to bring the ANZ and Asia teams together for the first time,” Penn said.
“We will continue to bring the very best of the BBC’s world-class content to customers throughout Asia Pacific.”
