Big news from the Sunday Tele: Train runs out of fish, out-of-towners mildy inconvenienced
Good to know that even during those normally slow news days of Easter, Sydney’s Sunday Telegraph was able to go on breaking the big news.
Take the intro to this dramatic tale: “The Melbourne-to-Sydney train ran out of fish on Good Friday.”
For those readers not overcome with shock at this news, which appears to have originated from an AAP colour piece, the breathless reportage continues in the second para: “Central Victorian couple Barry and Margaret Parson has to wait until Easter Saturday for an omega-3 hit, at the Sydney Fish market.”
At which point the newspaper’s readers will no doubt have been breathing a sigh of relief that it wasn’t a story involving anybody who was actually from the newspaper’s home city who had to undergo the indignity and horror.
Fortunately, the paper had a description of what the no doubt traumatised couple planned to have for their dinner:
“We’re having grilled snapper,” Mrs Parson said.
But surely the readers can’t be left dangling, wondering what on earth actually occurred on the fishless train from hell?
Happily not, with Mr Parson contributing his own eyewitness account. The paper reveals:
“Mr Parson said there wasn’t enough fish and chips for passengers on the train. ‘But it wouldn’t have been the same as this,’ he said.”
For those who were wondering, the Sunday Telegraph is Australia’s highest circulating newspaper.
And for those feeling even more curious, theage.com.au carried the same story in even more excruciating detail, although it inexplicably doesn’t appear to have run with the story in print.
Hilarious, almost as good as ACA’s story on binge drinking over the easter break- they basically just took a camera to the Cross on Saturday night and filmed people

I’m not sure what’s a bigger story this one, or the fact that Levi’s has changed its relationship with one green bean from retainer to project based.
