BOTW: The economics of podcasting and a fork in the bird
Welcome to Best of the Week, mostly written on a sunny Friday at Sisters Beach, Tasmania.
Happy International Men’s Day, except to performative jetskiers.
Today’s writing soundtrack: Caroline Shaw – Partita for 8 Voices. I needed something calming and classical after an unusually eventful second half of the week. Oh, boy. The next reader update on Unmade’s progress is going to be a doozy.
Today: Podcast boasting rights; Twitter (yes, again) and more red on the Unmade Index.
Maybe Twitter will survive, if Musk is as commercially savvy as his cheer squad seem to believe, but nothing is forever. The hard copy print media are struggling in an online world, but their struggle has taken many years longer than the early adopters of digital predicted. Twitter has been around now for many years, and has seen enormous growth and success. But things happen at lighten speed in the comms world today, and slow, agonising demise does not happen online. More like sudden death. One serious slip and you’re on your way out the door, like many of Twitter’s employees and contractors. The users don’t seem to like that sort of treatment. No wonder.
