Box office: Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes topples The Fall Guy
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes has taken $4 million at the Australian cinemas in its first week, toppling The Fall Guy from the top of the box office.
The ape-heavy action flick took $3.77 million over the opening weekend — including preview screenings, this takes the total to $4 million, dwarfing The Fall Guy’s $1.72 million this weekend – bringing the Gosling-Blunt film to a total of $10 million after three weeks.
Speaking to Mumbrella last week, Walt Disney Company Australia and New Zealand senior vice president and managing director, Kylie Watson-Wheeler, said Disney Australia was thrilled to have the movie – the fourth in the Planet of the Apes reboot franchise – shot at its Sydney studio.
“The production provided a meaningful boost to our screen and creative sector through employment, skills development, and use of local businesses,” she said.
Meanwhile on a new episode of Mumbrella’s one-on-one podcast series, Universal Pictures ANZ director of marketing, Suzanne Stretton-Brown, spoke about the state of the cinema industry in 2024.

Rounding out the box office top five is a new release title from India, Shinda Shinda No Papa, which took $272,000 in its opening weekend.
This week sees the release of the highly-anticipated IF, from writer, and director John Krasinski, which is sure to battle the apes for dominance this coming weekend.
