BuzzFeed and Twitter launch new political show, OzPol Live

BuzzFeed Australia and Twitter will launch a new live show, OzPol Live.

The five-episode series, which commences on May 9 at 11am, will be hosted by BuzzFeed’s politics editor, Alice Workman, who will broadcast the show from the Australian Parliament House Press Gallery on the Wednesday of each sitting week in Parliament.

The show officially launches on May 9, with a Federal Budget special

OzPol Live will be available for free globally, for logged-in and logged-out Twitter users through the publisher’s twitter account, @BuzzFeedOzPol. It will be produced by Nicola Harvey, with InBox News.

The episodes will run between 45 and 60 minutes, seeking to explore what is happening with politicians and policies. Interviews, news stories and other segments will all feature.

At times, Workman will be joined by politicians and commentators as well as news reporters Josh Taylor, Lane Sainty, Gina Rushton and Paul Farrell.

Workman said she couldn’t wait to bring BuzzFeed audiences into the stories in Canberra and have “real time feedback” through the broadcast.

“News out of Canberra moves so quickly, and #auspol is the epicentre of it all,” said Workman.

Workman will host the show, and will be joined by various politicians and commentators

“The Twitter conversation never fails to entertain as much as it informs, and that’s the same balance we’ll strike on OzPol Live, Australia’s first show devoted to the unique way Aussie politics plays out on Twitter and beyond.”

#auspol has been named Twitter’s most popular Australian hashtag every year by the social media service since 2014 while BuzzFeedOz Politic’s Twitter account has more than 90,000 followers.

Jonathan Harley, Twitter’s APAC director of news partnerships, said the collaboration was exciting.

“For years now, #auspol has been the most mentioned hashtag on Twitter in Australia, so we know that nothing gets Aussies talking like politics. Twitter is where people turn to see what’s happening in world of politics everyday, and the @BuzzFeedOzPol team have long been a vital source for many of our users,” Harley added.
