Clever Buoy picks up Internet of Things awards at SXSW Innovation
M&C Saatchi’s Clever Buoy picked up another award yesterday as one of only two non-Americans to win at the SXSW Innovation Awards.
The project for Optus, which saw the Sydney agency develop a buoy which detects sharks and sends a signal back to the beach to warn people of their presence, was awarded in the coveted Internet of Things category at the ceremony in Austin, Texas.
It has won awards including the Innovation Grand Prix at the Spikes Festival last year, and at the Kinsale Sharks.

I’d like to know why M&C continues to get credit for clever buoy but there’s no mention of the Australian company actually behind this and other innovative shark deterrent technology http://www.sharkmitigation.com ?
They use it to continually promote themselves, but what did they actually do? It’s a fantastic innovation, but credit where credit is due right? It’s one thing to have an idea it’s another to actually create and own the IP.
