Community Engine axes commercial team

Howden

Hogarth-Scott

Community Engine has axed its commercial team in a move that sees a number of people lose their jobs, among them marketing manager Alex Mileham, who was hired in April, and commercial director Will Noble.

The shake-up has also seen MD Piers Hogarth-Scott replaced by Ashley Howden, previously the company’s project development director.

At the time of going to press, Hogarth-Scott and Howden have the same job titles listed on their Linkedin profiles.

Howden refused to accept Mumbrella’s calls. In a message relayed via his PA, Howden said he “would not pander to journalists”.

According to a former employee, the removal of Community Engine’s commercial team was billed as a strategic shift from “a client service focus to an end user focus”.

Community Engine was launched in 2007 by Brandon Saul, the former vice president of FBi Radio. Part digital agency part technology company, its services include social media and community engagement. Among its more high profile work was the creation of a social networking site for the Labor Party, which was reported on by The Australian.

Community Engine parted ways with Access PR more than a year ago. Access resigned the business, Community Engine taking the function inhouse.
