Mamamia hires Simon Marmot to lead marketing
Mamamia, the female-focused website founded by former Cosmopolitan editor Mia Freedman has appointed Simon Marmot as its marketing director as the site aims to commercialise its growth.
According to Mamamia‘s audited traffic for June, it delivered nearly 2.5m page impressions and averaged more than 8,000 daily visitors.
As well as marketing Mamamia, Marmot will be responsible for developing the site’s advertising offering.
Mamamia CEO Jason Lavigne said: “We’re delighted to welcome Simon on board with this newly-created position and confident he’ll make a strong addition to the Mamamia team as we enter our next phase of expansion.”
Before Mamamia, Marmot was marketing manager at group buying site Cudo.
Previous roles have included marketing jobs at Global Forex Trading, and Time Inc.
Last month Mamamia announced the appointment of Rebecca Sparrow as deputy editor.
Mamamia was launched by Freedman in 2009

Freedman’s career began with ACP Magazines. It also included a program making role at Nine and she currently presents a Mamamia-branded slot on Sky News.
Good luck at Mamamia.
The unqie personalities that have joined Cudo of late tend to have this effect on their colleagues.

Well done to Simon. A true pro who will be a huge benefit to Mia and her team. Not to mention his fabulous cascading locks.

Just watched the video. Am I the only one who gets nauseous watching Mia continue to milk and peddle her days as a mag editor so many years after the fact? And a biography? You’ve got to be joking. Haha. Rofling. Clearly, as a bloke I’m not her demographic, but still. And l love the comment about ‘girls of today not being prepared to get their hands dirty’. Utter twaddle.

Go Mia! Uh, how on earth are they paying for these people? Mia, you need a paywall or more advertising (which is not a bad thing)

Interesting to note my comments critical (tho justifiable and without bias) of Mia’s self marketing were not posted… Free press anyone?

My mistake, and my apologies, there’s my comment in all its glory. Sorry..

what a ninny.
great advice though. “don’t assume free stuff is cos people love you. you’re actually just a prominent jerk.” very wise.

Isn’t it interesting that Mia feels the need to give advice to ‘girls’ on entering the world of publishing by simultaneously insulting their work ethic? These ‘girls’ get multiple degrees because often they have been turned away at the doors of Park Street. Getting work experience within ACP has become as exclusive as the handbags these vacuous women carry. And the fact that the employees there still dress like they are in a ‘fashion bubble’ shows that Mia has not had as much contribution to the world of magazines as she self-promotes. Five years as an editor does not much up a lifetime of wise advice or a biography for that matter.
