Crime pays as Casefile returns to top of Podcast Ranker

Crime does take a holiday, it would seem, as Casefile is back from its break and on top of the Podcast Ranker, knocking Shameless from the number one spot.

Shameless dropped from pole position to #2 during February, while ABC’s Conversations also fell from #3 to #5, and Hamish and Andy slipped from #5 to #6 – still very impressive given the show didn’t return with new episodes until the final day of February.

Those falls made way for Mamamia Out Loud, which jumped from #4 to #3, and the Kyle and Jackie O show, which moved from #6 to #4. Life Uncut moved from #9 to #7, and 7am moved from #11 to #8.

The most notable leap was from ABC News Daily, which moved to #9 from #41, while LiSTNR’s new Happy Hour with Lucy and Nikki is the highest debut, landing at #14.

14 of the 20 top podcasts had female hosts or co-hosts, while the top five genres by listener numbers were Society and Culture, News, True Crime, Comedy, and Sport.

“Nine new podcasts debuted in February, five of which were produced locally. That’s on top of the 12 new podcasts that debuted in January,” CRA chief Ford Ennals said.

“While audience loyalty is reflected in listener numbers of Australia’s leading podcasts, the Australian podcast scene continues to reflect the diversity of content and hosts available to listeners, allowing them to quickly add new favourites.”
