Dr Mumbo very much enjoyed the intro to SMH’s piece on the Melbourne International Film Festival today.
In fact, he enjoyed it precisely the same amount as he enjoyed the intro to the Melbourne International Film Festival’s press release – which was sent out a few weeks ago.
In fact, the SMH article and the MIFF press release are, word for word, equally enjoyable.
If there is a favourite bit of the SMH article, it is probably the final paragraph. Bear in mind that this was published today – on 8 July:
The full program will be announced on Tuesday 5 July. Tickets go on sale Friday 8 July. The 2011 Festival will run from 21 July – 7 August. For further information visit www.miff.com.au
Well done SMH for digging deep and writing an original headline though.
Sigh.

It’s lazy, but not that concerning. This is an entertainment article, not real news. Fairfax is a MIFF sponsor. The Age today had a MIFF program guide supplement. It’s not a big deal if they lift one line.
The real crime here is the odd and inconsistent use of hyperlinks (IMDB? What?) for a handful of films and none of the others.

II was getting rather agro at the SMH becoming a frenzy of ads and fonts and I am beginning to read it more as the frequency of typos, errors and waste of space columns makes for quite entertaining reading. Might even pay to use it if they can maintain the low standards.

Here’s a strange coincidence:
Daily Mash – 21 June:
Weddings in stupid places to bankrupt Britain

SMH Traveller on 6 July:
We’re getting married overseas and you’re invited … to spend heaps
