Daily Telegraph accidentally runs Sydney Morning Herald editorial

It’s been a tumultuous time for print media in recent years – with shrinking staff, shrinking budgets, and shrinking pages. Then Nine bought Fairfax, and people weren’t sure what was going to happen to its mastheads, including The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age.

So you can imagine people’s confusion today, when they were flipping through the Rupert Murdoch-owned The Daily Telegraph only to come across a page from rival The Sydney Morning Herald – the editorial page no less.

Right next to the sassy and gossipy Sydney Confidential, is The Sydney Morning Herald opinion page.

Dr Mumbo has verified the error, and notes that when News Corp and the-company-formerly-known-as-Fairfax entered the agreement to share printing presses in 2018, Fairfax CEO Greg Hywood said it would be “more efficient”.

Indeed, Mumbrella ran the line: “The arrangement will have no impact on content for either publisher. ” Whoops.

A Herald spokesperson told Dr Mumbo: “We hope the early edition readers of the Tele enjoyed our Sydney Morning Herald editorial. We have been advised it was an error which was corrected as soon as it was identified so later editions weren’t impacted.”
