EBay Australia appoints We Are Social as social and influencer marketing agency of record

We Are Social has won online shopping giant eBay Australia as a new client, tasked with serving as its influencer marketing and social agency of record.

The appointment wraps up a competitive pitch process, and sees the socially-focused creative agency bolster eBay’s presence on Instagram and TikTok, in addition to facilitating local creator partnerships.

Overall, We Are Social is required to increase community engagement, drive audience growth and enable “retail moments” across the digital marketplace’s categories, such as car accessories and parts, trading cards and pre-owned fashion.

The organisation is also expected to review eBay’s influencer and social strategy to ensure that it exemplifies the company’s ‘Everyone Has a Thing’ brand platform – a campaign it launched in August 2023 via Futurebrand Australia and Special.

“We’re excited to join forces with an iconic, community-driven brand like eBay, bringing our 15 years of social, influencer and culture-first expertise to their wonderful agency village,” Suzie Shaw, We Are Social Australia’s chief executive officer, expressed.

“When we started working on the pitch, we came across a great quote that said, ‘If it’s trending in Australia, it’s trending on eBay’ which is so true and presents a really great role for social to play.”

According to eBay Australia’s head of campaigns and comms, Zannie Abbott, the partnership between the online retail platform and We Are Social marks a new era for eBay.

“Partnering with We Are Social marks an exciting new chapter for eBay Australia as we look to deepen our connection with our enthusiast buyers through innovative and engaging organic social content,” Abbott said.

“With 25 years in Australia and millions of Aussies using eBay every month, our brand is truly ingrained in pop culture. We Are Social’s expertise in social and influencer marketing aligns perfectly with our vision to not only stay at the forefront of trends but to actively shape them.”

EBay Australia is the latest business win for We Are Social.

In early November 2024, the creative organisation was announced as the social agency of record for Volkswagen Group, with the responsibility of overseeing the social strategy and execution of four of its brands – Audi, Škoda, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and CUPRA.
