Facebook, News Corp and Nine join Mumbrella Publish lineup to unpack social networks, subscription models and content
The biggest social networking platform, Facebook, is joining the lineup at Mumbrella’s Publish conference on September 19 as its Australian news and partnerships lead, Andrew Hunter, returns to the stage to unpack how the social network and publishing industry are interacting in the current climate.
Hunter will cover the way publishers and the social behemoth are using original TV-style programming, subscription growth strategies, and news on Facebook to grow audiences and engagement.
Also confirmed is a panel discussing attracting and engaging audiences featuring David Eisman, director of subscriptions and growth at The SMH, The Age and The AFR; Nickie Scriven, CEO of Zenith; and Brendan Collogan, GM of digital consumer revenue at News Corp Australia.
The trio will discuss the value of a reader and how to create a community around an identifiable brand – a topic of continual conversation in an environment of ever-changing consumer habits.
Luke Girgis, CEO of music and entertainment publisher, The Brag Media, has also been added to the line up of speakers.
Girgis is set to unpack the true meaning of content marketing, whether or not publishers can really win, and reveal why he thinks Australia is lagging behind the US and UK when it comes to content marketing opportunities.
In the no-holds-barred session, Girgis will explain why he believes there is a significant disconnect between what content marketing can deliver and what marketers think they want content marketing to deliver.
He will address why Australian CMOs are being hypersensitive and what needs to take place to rectify the current state of content marketing.
Hunter, Eisman, Scriven, Collogan and Girgis join other already announced speakers including Emily Ferguson, head of fashion and beauty affiliates, Marie-Claire UK; Ben Rudolph, managing director and CTO, Microsoft News Labs Washington; Chris Janz, managing director, publishing, Nine; Rebecca Costello, CEO, Schwartz Media; and Janice Williams, publisher and head of digital strategy, Universal Magazines.
Mumbrella Publish is being held at Hotel Swissôtel Sydney on September 19. Earlybird tickets are on sale now.

Questionable choice to include The Brag’s publisher on the line up this year when they run backwards, offensive and damaging content like this:

Transphobia, climate change denial and sexism all in the one piece!

Thanks for the comment, A. Non. The Brag was confirmed on our program before this all came to light. We also confirmed speakers long before we actually make public announcements.
We generally like to give our delegates the opportunity to hear a variety of speakers on a range of topics, and we also encourage them to ask questions, even the hard ones.
If you’re at Publish, feel free to ask the questions you want answered from the various speakers, including The Brag.
If anything changes on the program front, you’ll be sure to hear about it on Mumbrella.
Thanks,
Damian – Mumbrella
