X-men: Days of Future Past has been pushed down to fourth place in the weekend’s box office, with The Fault In Our Stars claiming the top spot after taking in $3.776m across 273 screens over the long weekend.
The Fault in Our Stars, based on the book by John Green, has taken just over $4m in Australia since its premiere on Thursday.
Its closest rival action movie Edge of Tomorrow, which stars Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, grabbed $3.023m over the weekend across 477 screens, taking its total Australian box office takings to $3.079m.
Disney’s Maleficent, starring Angelina Jolie as the Sleeping Beauty antagonist Maleficent, was pushed into third place after grabbing second place last week. It took $2.68m over the weekend across 530 screens, pushing its total box office takings in Australia to $8.109m.

X-men: Days of Future Past had to settle for fourth place after dominating the box office for the last few weeks, taking in $2.198m in ticket sales across 523 screens, boosting its total box office takings to $18.422m.
Kids flick How To Train Your Dragon 2 was fifth grabbing $2.015m in tickets over the long weekend across 430 screens, while Seth McFarlane’s western comedy A Million Ways To Die In the West, which stars the Family Guy creator alongside Liam Neesen and Charlize Theron took in $1.203m across 280 screens. The film recently had an online ad pulled by the Advertising Standards Board for a scene in which oral sex is implied using silhouetted figures.
Godzilla had to settle for 10th place taking only $431,867 across 228 screens, taking its total Australian box office takings to nearly $13.5m.
