Fifty Acres opens US arm to support beehive client

Communications agency Fifty Acres has appointed Kari Browne to spearhead the company’s move into the United States.

The agency’s North American launch comes after securing the account of Australian beekeeping startup Flow Hive, which came to prominence in 2016 after raising a record $16.9m in a crowdfunding campaign for its specially designed beehives.

Following their crowd funding success, the father and son founders of Flow Hive have retained Fifty Acres to lead the business’ efforts to crack the U.S. market.

Guiding their overseas expansion is Kari Browne, an international communications specialist who relocated to Sydney from New York in 2016 and was recently appointed Head of News and Account Director with Fifty Acres.

“We’re thrilled to have Kari join our dynamic and growing team,” said Jo Scard, CEO and Founder of Fifty Acres. “She brings a diverse international perspective to our clients and bolsters our U.S. knowledge base here in Australia which will underpin our expansion into the American market.”

Browne has previously worked as a senior producer for BBC News in Los Angeles, Washington DC, New York and London. She has also run her own businesses in hospitality, interior design and media production.

“With our client base expanding into the US, we are gathering a talented pool of journalists and strategic consultants to forge valuable relationships within the American media landscape,” Scard said. “It’s a new and exciting market and we’re embracing collaborative projects across the pacific that match our for-good values.”

Along with Browne, Fifty Acres has also engaged US based media consultant, Erica Hellerstein, for strategic media outreach advice to the Fifty Acres team and Leslie Cory, a multimedia journalist based in Denver, Colorado.

Fifty Acres’ other clients include Blue Knot Foundation, National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO), Community Sector Banking, National Disability Service, Refugee Council of Australia and Jodi Lee Foundation.
