Five new languages to appear on SBS Radio app

Five new languages are set to appear on SBS’ new radio app from today, the broadcaster has announced.

The app, which relaunched two months ago, will now feature Karen, Tibetan, Hakha Chin, Mongolian and Kirundi.

Five new languages have been added to the app today

SBS has said the new services aim to provide information and community updates for new migrant communities.

The latest additions follow a review of SBS Radio last year, which saw twelve languages axed from the offering. The decision to cull the stations was the result of a failure to meet the organisation’s criteria for foreign language programming.

Mandi Wicks, director of audio and language content at SBS, said:  “With our audiences increasingly consuming our content via digital platforms, we believe on demand content is the most effective way to reach and engage with younger audiences.”

Rohingya and Telugu services will be announced soon.

All content is available digitally through audio podcasts on the SBS website and radio app.
