Fundraising group buying site for children launches

A group buying site that raises money for charity by offering deals on products for kids launches today. The site, called Kid U Not, launches with the slogan “Group Deals. Group Giving.”

The announcement:

Sydney, 3rd May 2011: Kid U Not (www.kidunot.com.au), a new group buying website dedicated to offering its members exclusive daily deals on all things for kids, will launch across Australia today. With the motto “Group Deals. Group Giving.” Kid U Not also highlights the latest development in online group buying by supporting worthy causes through charitable spending.

From today, for every Australian who signs up to become a member, Kid U Not will donate $1 to a selection of children’s charities including Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation and SMILE Foundation.

Founded by a group of budget-conscious community-minded parents, Kid U Not will partner with a wide range of businesses around Australia to offer members significant discounts on a huge range of child-focused products, services and experiences covering clothing, activities, educational products, toys, health, entertainment, play equipment and even travel.

With the cost of raising a child to the age of 18 estimated to cost the average Australian family close to $1 million*, the launch of Kid U Not is great news for all Australian families.  Kid U Not deals will offer members anything from 50 to 90 per cent off the recommended retail price.

Caroline Selka, co-founder of Kid U Not, said: “Being a budget conscious mother of two young children myself, I realised there was a clear gap in the market for a group buying website offering discounts specifically focused on children’s and family-related products, services and experiences. Kid U Not will help ease the ongoing financial costs associated with raising and entertaining kids.”

Kid U Not will also support local schools and children’s charities through its Group Giving Program. Through this initiative Kid U Not will donate five per cent of its revenue from each online purchase to a school or charity of the purchaser’s choice on an ongoing basis. From a local school to a children’s charity, Kid U Not lets its members decide where their dollars are donated.

Caroline Selka, continued: “Through the Kid U Not Group Giving Program, we have combined collective buying power with donations to schools and children’s charities. Whether it’s building a new playground or helping contribute to a wonderful children’s charity group, Kid U Not is proud to be able to give back to local communities.”
