Geekdom boss Rushton departs

Geekdom boss Troy Rushton has left the troubled Photon-owned internet company to start his own internet technology firm.

Rushton claimed that he was still consulting with Geekdom on “a few joint projects” and had left the company on “good” terms.

His new venture, called Geekhub, specialises in domain development and has launched with 15 staff. Rushton said many of the staff have come from Geekdom.

He added that he left Geekdom over the Christmas period and it is understood the company is still hunting his replacement.

Geekdom was the second Photon company last month to undergo a major restructure following moves earlier that year to let go of nearly 20 staff.

There was also speculation that it had made further redundancies during December – a claim which was denied by Rushton.

Photon also recently reported that it would make a $5.5m loss in its internet and e-commerce division following the sale of its struggling business, Geekversity, which was run by Geekdom.

Geekdom was not available for comment at the time this story was posted.
