Hit Network early breakfast show replaced by music and breakfast highlights

Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) has announced that Hit Network early breakfast show Those Two Girls with Lise Carlaw and Sarah Wills, will be taken off air to become a daily podcast.

A spokesperson for SCA told Mumbrella that Those Two Girls, which airs from 5am-6am daily, will instead be replaced by highlights from local breakfast shows or music. Each SCA station will be allowed to decide on the direction they take within the timeslot.

If stations choose not to air highlights from their breakfast shows, listeners will hear “an exclusive mash up from the Hit Network’s very own DJ Konsky, with Hit fans’ favourite music,” the spokesperson said.

Those Two Girls will become a podcast

Meanwhile, Carlaw and Wills will have their own podcast called Halfternoons with Those Two Girls, which will air from 31 May on SCA’s new LiSTNR app. The podcast will drop on the app at 2pm daily.

Those Two Girls have hosted Hit Network’s early breakfast show for the past three years, getting the gig in 2018 after being recognised for hosting weekend breakfast on Hit105 (now B105) Brisbane.

Speaking about their new podcast, Wills said: “The freedom, play and potential in the podcast space has excited us for some time and to work with the LiSTNR team developing a daily podcast right in time for those who need a little arvo pick-me-up, is where we want to be.”

Carlaw added: “The beauty of Halfternoons is people can listen to the 2pm drop, but it will absolutely still be relevant for folks on their evening commute home, or on the 5am trip to the gym the following morning; the aim is to keep our listeners company, whatever they’re doing.”

The duo also had a brief stint hosting breakfast on Hit Gold Coast alongside Dan Anstey and Ben Hannant, which ended in mid-2020.

Head of Hit Network, Gemma Fordham, said the duo have been “standout performers for us digitally”.

“We have worked closely with Sarah and Lise since 2017 and created the early morning national breakfast shift for them to provide a platform to help their natural broadcasting talents sharpen and flourish.

“They have gone from strength to strength and have carved out an audience of Australian women who connect to their candour and authenticity. They have been standout performers for us digitally and I’m so pleased we have them joining the LiSTNR offering.”

Halfternoons will become the third podcast by Carlaw and Wills on the network, after SCA acquired their weekly Forty podcast, and the launch of Sugar Rush in late 2020.
