Honda’s Sydney Festival magical spinning cup

Honda's spinning cup in actionIt looks like an amusement park ride from the outside, but Honda promises it is actually a cutting edge experience using the latest digital and engineering technology which must be ridden to fully understand.

Called the HondaTrope, three people sit inside in a cup which begins spinning.

It is surrounded by 18 LED poles, and once the cup reaches a certain spinning speed the poles create a visual image of a garden which can only be seen by those inside the cup.

The HondaTrope  is an attraction inside the Honda Festival Garden in Hyde Park as part of the Sydney Festival. “The HondaTrope is an innovative and creative installation that pushes the boundaries of engineering and technology and really demonstrates the power of clever thinking,” said Stephen Collins, Honda Australia’s director and general manager of sales and marketing .

“The partnership with Honda and the Sydney Festival has resulted in creating a world-first experience that reflects what the festival is all about – creativity, art, and collaboration – but most of all, having fun.”

The installation was developed by Honda’s digital agency DT, and brought together by brand experience agency Play Communication.

Entry to the Honda Festival Garden is free, as is the ride and will be in place until January 27.
