‘People are frightened about speaking out’: Channel Seven’s NDA culture revealed in Four Corners
An investigation into Channel Seven has revealed a toxic workplace culture, characterised by bullying, sexism, and harassment, particularly towards women.
“People are frightened about speaking out because they say they’ve seen the way others have been crushed,” Louise Milligan said, regarding the overriding feeling amongst the 200-plus former and current Seven journalist she spoke to when preparing tonight’s story.
Amy Taeuber, who was a 27-year-old cadet journalist in Adelaide, appeared on Four Corners, but was unable to talk in detail about her experiences due to a non disclosure agreement. Taeuber made a sexual harassment complaint against an older male senior staffer, and was dismissed from Seven shortly after.
A fish always rots from its head. Network 7, Super Cars, Network 10… follow the breadcrumbs
Pretty sure you wouldn’t have to dig too deep at the 7 Creative Department to find a ongoing and well-know bullying culture either. But as always they’ll just change the things they have to to keep things the same
Watched Four Corners again this morning. It’s a couple of decades since I worked at Seven, but even back then the human resources department was the weak link in the management chain. Apart from the ‘Spotlight’ debacle (no comment required), the issues highlighted last night were all bog standard HR failures which could happen in any large organisation. I look forward to the future episode after they’ve spoken to 200 current and former ABC employees. Pot. Kettle. Black!
OLD issues?
You must be joking. Look at the last wave of redundancies and one can see how much 7 wants their people to thrive.
Yes, agreed. All perpetrators of this kind of harassment and bullying should be named and shamed, swiftly.
this should be the start of other publishers and agencies being investigated- this is common behaviour in our industry. So many companies and people could be named and shamed.
My daughter works behind the scenes at Seven regional and it is exactly the same culture. Along with the terrible salary she has to put up with blatant misogynistic comments.
Swift justice for all.
The staff on reality programs aren’t any different. Lots of bullying and intimidation! Group chats making fun of talent having mental breakdowns on set. Part of the reason I left television!
