Pearson returns to Whybin\TBWA as planning director

PHD head of of digital and innovation Joel Pearson is departing the media agency to return to Whybin\TBWA Sydney as its planning director.

Pearson has worked with PHD in Sydney for the past year-and-a-half and was with the agency as its innovation director in London for just over two years. Before that he was Whybin\TBWA’s interactive brand planner for 10 months.

He is best known for his role leading global distribution planning on the Dove Real Beauty Sketches campaign.

Hristos Varouhas, chief strategy officer at Whybin\TBWA said in a statement: “We’re excited to have Joel back in our planning team. He is exceptionally smart, a great collaborator and epitomises the modern planning hybrid that will help us ensure clients’ brands are kept at the forefront of culture, which is critical in genuinely disrupting today’s cluttered media landscape.”

Pearson said: “I am absolutely delighted to be re-joining Hristos and the team at TBWA. Not only are they some of the nicest people in the business, but they consistently produce some of the best work in the market.

On PHD he added: “My time with the team at PHD has been great, and I’d like to thank Coady [CEO Mark Coad] and the team for a great experience and all we have achieved.”

For Whybin\TBWA the appointment follows on from the shock resignation of chairman Scott Whybin early last month, while the agency is competing with its sister Melbourne shop in the shortlist for the Mumbrella Awards Creative Agency of the Year.
