Lego Masters helps Nine to nightly win but audience down on launch

Nine’s Lego Masters was the top rating entertainment program on Tuesday, helping the network to a nightly rating win, with an average of 782,000 metro viewers tuning in.

However, metro audience for the show was down on Monday’s launch (838,000), itself down on the prior year’s launch episode (1.117 million).

The performance of the show, plus an overall win for Nine News which was the #1 program for the night overall with 1.034 million metro viewers, gave Nine a network share of 28.6% ahead of Seven’s 26.8%. Lego Masters also won all three key advertising demographics.

Lego Masters’ ratings took a hit but was still the #1 entertainment program

Lego Masters wasn’t the only program to fall behind its 2020 ratings so far, with Ten’s latest season of MasterChef delivering middling ratings in its first two episodes this year.

After opening to 670,000 metro viewers on Monday (down on the 1.268 million who watched the 2020 launch), MasterChef fell to 582,000 metro viewers overnight.

The episode saw 16 contenders battle it out for the remaining 5 aprons, for the chance to be a part of the rest of the season.

Seven’s Dancing With The Stars: All Stars was third among entertainment programs for the night, but its 577,000 metro viewers was up on the corresponding episode last year.

MasterChef and Dancing only just outperformed Home And Away, which had 572,000 metro viewers.

Nine News was the top-rating program of the night overall, delivering 1.034 million metro viewers. Seven News brought in 993,000 metro viewers, while A Current Affair was watched by 741,000 metro viewers.

Meanwhile, Ten pulled ahead of the ABC in the battle for third in the network share ratings, with MasterChef helping it to a 20.4% share ahead of ABC’s 16.8%.

The #1 multi-channel on Tuesday night was 7TWO with a 3.3% share.
