Macquarie Media sales boss jumps ship to join podcast start-up Whooshkaa

The head of sales for Macquarie Radio Network has left the broadcaster to link up with his former boss at podcast start-up Whooshkaa.

Nick Randall, who has worked in radio sales for the past 15 years, has joined former Macquarie Radio managing director, Rob Lowenthal, at the podcast platform as it looks to expand its portfolio.

Randall: “Recent Facebook integration is just one of many initiatives underway”

Randall takes up the role of commercial director for Whooshkaa, and will be responsible for leading its efforts around sales and content marketing.

“Randall’s appointment reaffirms our commitment to being the leading company in our industry,” said Lowenthal. “Our innovativeness and increasing customer demand call for an experienced senior executive who is in sync with our ethos of trailblazing and exceptional service.

“We are delighted to have a professional of Nick’s calibre on board.”

Randall said: “I look forward to working with the team to develop their already extensive advertiser offering. The Whooshkaa development team is at the forefront of podcast innovation, and its recent Facebook integration is just one of many initiatives underway.

“I am fortunate to be joining a pioneering team leading the way in the commercialisation of podcasts.”

Whooshkaa was founded by Lowenthal earlier this year and aims to help podcast creators monetise their content by injecting targeted advertising into their shows.

In July it announced it was trialling a “world first” by partnering with Facebook to deliver its content directly through the social media site.

Fox Sports, Sky News, The Australian, The Daily Telegraph, Sunday Telegraph and Sky News use the platform for their podcasts.
