Maxus head of digital Tom Kelshaw to leave Australia for regional role

The head of digital at Maxus is to leave the agency’s Sydney office.

Tom Kelshaw, a well respected practitioner who joined the GroupM media agency in January 2010, is to move from Sydney to Singapore to take on a regional role for the young network.

David Gaines, CEO of Maxus Australia, called the move a “double edged sword” for the agency, which some months ago saw head of search David Sanderson take the same path as Kelshaw to Singapore to be regional head of search.

Gaines told Mumbrella in a statement: “In Australia, there are key parts of the Maxus product we are building that have become part of the template for the agency, not just regionally but globally too.”

“Tom’s been one of the critical parts of that talent mix and increasingly we are working on how we can use his skill set to help us accelerate digital integration in our other offices. Simple economies have got us to the point where geographically, being there rather than here now makes more sense”.

He added: “It’s a double edged sword. Obviously we spend a lot of time creating the right mix of people as does everybody. But at the same time it’s nice for us to be influencing the shape of the network from here, rather than just having a predetermined model thrown in to Australia. And importantly for us, while the target is October, Tom’s here until we find the right person to replace him anyway.”

When he first joined Maxus, Kelshaw replaced Ben Sheppard, now at online publisher Sound Alliance.
