Melbourne radio ratings: Fox FM overtakes 3AW in Drive slot

Melbourne’s Fox FM has overtaken 3AW’s Tom Elliott in the critical Drive slot, with 12.3% share in GfK survey five. Hosts Carrie Bickmore and Tommy Little, and David Hughes and Kate Langbroek (on air from Italy but replaced by 2Day FM’s Ed Kavalee in recent weeks) enjoyed a 1.3 percentage point jump, pushing Fox above AM’s strong-performing 3AW in the slot.

3AW dropped 0.6 percentage points to finish with 11.4% share in drivetime. Survey five ran from 6 May to 29 June, and 14 July to 17 August.

Fox backed its success in the Drive slot with a strong overall performance in the people 10+ demographic, finishing second behind 3AW with 10.2% share, boosted by a 0.4 percentage point improvement. 3AW maintained its clear lead with 15.2% share, despite a drop of 0.4 percentage points.

In the breakfast slot, 3AW was dominant with 18.6% share, while Fox’s Fifi, Fev and Byron show (which saw Fifi replaced by former Gogglebox star Yvie Jones while Box is on maternity leave) led the FM offering on 10% (dropping 0.5 percentage points). 3AW breakfast hosts Ross Stevenson and John Burns have held the top spot for more than 100 consecutive rating periods.

Behind Fox was Nova 100 on 8.6%, then Gold’s Christian O’Connell on 8%, who was up 1 percentage point to enjoy the biggest improvement in breakfast.

Polly ‘PJ’ Harding and Jase Hawkins (Jase and PJ) led Kiis 101.1 to 7.2% share in the slot, an improvement of 0.7 percentage points and the highest breakfast figures for Kiis since 2015 (beating last survey’s result of 6.5%).

Overall, Gold came in behind 3AW and Fox with 9.8% share, a climb of 0.8 percentage points, followed by Smooth FM with 9.4% (up 0.6). ABC Melbourne finished on 8% share, the best for the public broadcaster, with Triple J on 4.3%, ABC Classic on 2.2% and ABC News on 1.4%.

Macquarie Sports had the same result as last survey, with 0.2% overall share.
